Professionalism…….As a student of computer science , I’ve heard this word lot of times ,starting from my lecturer during class hours while firing us for disturbances, to people wasting  a lot of energy in the workshops asking  students to be more professional. So for this New year, I have resolved to be more “Professional “. And that’s when I came across the Microsoft Certified Professional exams.

I‘ve heard about this before ,but was not aware of it’s value in the industry .So I checked it out to know more about it and the type of certifications offered .A lot of information about  Microsoft certification was available in the website of Microsoft (Visit Microsoft ). I picked up some of the certifications which I found important and suitable for me .I hope they are of use to you too ,if you too want become more “professional”.

MCAD- Microsoft Certified Application Developer:

This certification is for professionals who are involved in developing, testing and maintaining department level applications, components ,web or desktop clients or database and network services that are based on Microsoft tools and technologies.

MCTS- Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist:

This certificate is to validate the skills of the professional on the features and functionality of key technologies. In MCTS, a number of certificates can be earned for different technologies and products of Microsoft.

MCSE- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer:

The MCSE certificate is to certify that the professional can design, implement and administer infrastructures for business solutions based on Microsoft 2000 Windows server and other windows server platforms. The implementation responsibilities include installing, configuring, troubleshooting network systems. This certificate caters to a variety of job roles including systems engineer, technical support engineer, system analyst, network analyst and technical consultant.

MCSA- Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator:

This certificate validates your ability to manage and troubleshoot network environments in the windows Operating system. It tests the unique set of skills required to succeed in a variety of job roles, such as systems administrator, network administrator, information systems administrator, network operations analyst, network technician and technical support specialist.

All these certificates come under the general category of MCP(Microsoft Certified Professional). In order to get the information about a particular certification exam, search for the name of the certificate to get the accurate results because I spent a lot of time looking for just MCP and ended up with inaccurate results.

No doubt that these certifications offered by Microsoft are boost to your professional career. So why wait? It’s time to grab one. All the best for it(and I expect the same from you coz even I am going for one). But these are highly technical exams which require expertise in the concerned technologies of Microsoft .So a lot of practice and effort is needed to pass them.

There are certifications offered by other companies too(Oracle ,Sun ,Apple ,Adobe ,etc…).These are sure to add a good amount of quality and credibility to your resume. So it’s time to get started .Good luck.
