Every one wants a website nowadays. There may be reasons for it; business, file sharing, or most importantly, for nothing…..And like the majority, I belong to the third category and I wanted to have a website. That’s when I came across a tempting ad which said “Free websites and unlimited hosting”. Wow! That was really exiting and on clicking, it took me to a web solutions provider’s site.

The website gave me a registration form. I signed up .It was all fun, they asked me the name I would like to have as my Domain(the name at the centre of the web address like google.com). I looked for the name "technofreak", and guess what? It was available.Thrilled at the idea of owning a website, I got started to build my website.

They gave me a lot of tools to build my website. Since I am an intermediate web programmer, I used the developer's tools along with my own code and started building my site. I was hooked up for nearly two hours adding a lot of good content. I worked really hard on the designs (more work than my final exams!!!).Then at last, I gave a finishing click, with a sense of great achievement.

Only then I was shown the other face of webhosting. If I had to own a site, I need to pay a minimum of $15 for my domain per year. Then comes my web space. They offered 3000MB for $10 per month. And lots of other hidden costs. I was completely fedup. Two hours of my programming skills were wasted. But wait a minute...... What about the domain they promised? They said it was free. So I checked it out and they did give the so called free domain name.

Like this "www.thecompanyname.com/technofreak".This was the address of the free website. Grrrrr! Damn the busines tactics!!!

But it was really good for me since then I decided to know about domains and webhosting. And I realized that owning a website is not a joke. It takes a lot of work to build a site which is worth giving a second look. NOONE in the world can offer you a free website, and if it is offered, the domain will be registered in the company’s name and your website would be filled with the company’s content rather than yours(and lots of ads). So before you think of owning a website, get to know the basics of it.

If you are serious about getting a website, then have the necessary funds for it(for fun sake, go for a blog !).There are a lot of quality web solutions providers for your website and they offer many additional features along with good amount of designs and tools. So all my website lovers, till date, there has been no webhosting service provider who has given a free website like this "www.example.com".So don't hurry to the site when an ad pops up. If you really want a website which makes sense, you ought to give your wallet and skills some work.
