Torrents. Myself and a lot of internet surfers love this word. Millions and Millions  of music ,movies ,pictures ,softwares,  and what’s more? You can even get  a whole lot of e-books which teach you to do almost anything in this world .Thousands of audio and video tutorials. Even TV shows that you have missed can be viewed with utmost clarity .So, let’s see what’s the technical stuff  that makes the torrents so powerful.

Torrents are usually large files which are shared through the internet. It is a completely different methodology used for downloading torrent files. For ex.  One guy creates a torrent file and uploads it to the website server .This file is called as the seed .Somebody downloads the file from the website. when the other guy completes the download of the same file ,his copy  becomes an other  seed.   If  hundred guys download it then they together make  hundred seeds .What happens is that when a file or even a part of the file is downloaded, the same amount is uploaded so that others  are able to download it at a faster rate .The people who are in the process of downloading are called as leeches. Only when the number of seeds exceeds the number of leeches, a super fast download is guaranteed.

Let’s move to the fun stuff. So what do we get from these torrents? Actually, the greatest torrent server is the Pirate Bay(whose founder’s were jailed recently ).Many other websites extract the torrents from pirate bay as well as from user’s contributions .I recently got a lot of soft wares (Photoshop cs4),movies(Terminator salvation),music ,etc…And every day, numerous torrents are being uploaded by a large number of users.

Pirate bay was actually founded by a small group of friends in Sweden in 2003.From then on pirate bay have been sailing troubled waters.It had boldly faced the treats of major organizations like the Hollywood entertainment industry .But still the pirate bay has been able to give a good fight by using the popular piratebay reply"The laws of US are not applicable in sweden".

Though torrents are very much appreciated by the consumer community,the organizations are terrified of them.The industries which suffer a major loss are the Music and Film industries.Recently Piratbyrån, the founder along with his team,was sentenced one year in jail and a compensation of around $3 m.

But still the pirate bay continues to sail with a large community to back it up.Pirate bay has sunk occasionally but had managed to get back in the seas with greater might.Let's hope for the survival of the bittorrent website.

The popular torrent websites are Mininova, Pirate bay, Torrentz, torrentreactor, demonoid and the list goes on. Any one  can upload as well as download torrents. But there is a need for a small app (eg utorrent),since these torrents  are not normal files.
