In this article, I am going to focus on one important topic in web development .Search Engine Optimization (SEO).So ,What is SEO ? It is defined as the process of making the search engines understand that you have a website or a blog that has quality content that is related to the user who looks up for a topic in the search engine.

Lets get a clear picture .You want to look for a topic about Programming with Java .the first thing you do is open a search engine (Google ,Yahoo ,MSN ,etc…)and type the word and the search engine gives you a list of websites that contain the topic. Then the user clicks a website and then goes into it and takes the required information .The important thing here to note is that is that the traffic from the search engine is sent to your website .Traffic is the ultimate requirement of any website or a blog, and without this traffic,the content ,services and ads are of no use.

And now, how do we optimize the search engine so that it lists your website in its first two or three pages? For this you must know how the search engine searches for a content and so lists the related website.

The search engine uses an algorithm called as the Crawler technology which looks up the web for the topic that is related to the word that is being searched. It is programmed in such a way that it gets only the content with a good structure and quality, so that the user is satisfied by the results. That is the reason why more people turn towards search engines to find a particular subject. So our job is to make the search engine feel satisfied with the content and is worth recommending to the user.

There are a lot of things which makes a website worth displaying in the search results. But there are some most important (or compulsory) methods of writing the content that will make a search engine think that you have the necessary information. They are

· Quality

· keywords

· Keyword density

· Number of pages

· Age of website

Ø Quality :

What do you mean by this? This means that your article(s) should contain the necessary information about the topic that the user is looking for. It is to make sure that the user is not directed to a page that contains irrelevant information. The search engines find whether your article is of quality by some of the factors discussed below. Your motive should be to provide useful information and not just driving traffic and make money from ads. So quality content always drives good traffic. And make sure that it is original because the search engine rates the websites with plagiarism as poor ones and you may even get banned from being listed.

Ø Keywords.

A user looks up for a topic using a search term in the search engine text box. This word (s) is called as the keyword. The number of keywords in your website content about the search term will make your website appear in the top of the search listing. Use proper keywords in your article .They must be used properly in suitable places .Make the article quite large so that a number of keywords can be used and there is lot of information. Search engines consider large articles to be of better quality .

Ø Keyword density

If you think adding a large number of keywords in your article can make your website stand out, you are right. But the thing is it will stand out of the search engine, (i.e.) it will be banned. So what do you do so that quite a number of keywords and search engines take them to top of their list? Search engines use a algorithm called as keyword density. The no of times a keyword is used in a article. Normally use one keyword per ten words. That is the right amount of keyword density. That will prevent the search engine from thinking that your website is a spam.

Ø Number of pages

The size of website or blog too contributes in the success of SEO. Regularly updated sites climb the search listing ladder more quickly than the ones which prefer occasional updating. So add good content and features to your website regularly. The more number of content will make the search engine think that you have a good amount of information in your website.

Ø Age of website

When registering a website, register it for a long time period(minimum 2 years).Search engines think that old websites are far more stable than new ones and the ones registered for a short period. So register it for a good period of time and then keep working on the site’s improvement.
